Although many Baa Bahu aur Baby fans are very livid at the recent ending of their slice of life Star Plus week end show, Shweta Keswani who played the role of Gudiya in the above Hats Off Production venture seems to have taken this development in her stride.
"What begins has to end. And we have had a run of five glorious years. I think it's better to end at a high, rather than wait for the audience to run away", she quips. Shweta justified her apparent calmness at the exit of a show, which took 2 and a half years of her life. "Earlier when my shows would go off air, I would get hurt, but not any more. It makes no sense in getting worked up over things which we have no control over. More than anything, I will miss the entire caste, we had become like a family. I was especially close to Sucheta Trivedi, who plays Meenakshi bhabhi", says she. Coming to her Punjabi character, she says, "Although Gudiya was poles apart from me yet it only took me little time to get into her skin. People think that I am as loud as her in real life as well. I am quite glad to have got to play few very good roles in my decade long TV career. Annu in Des Main Nikla Hoga Chand and Avantika in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki along with Gudiya are my best roles ever". Shweta goes on, "Working with a producer like JD Majethia was a completely different experience . We would some times just shoot one scene a day. This is a far cry from other production houses which work like assembly units. Director Deven Bhojani would take pains to ensure that we laid emphasis on the correct word, lest the whole meaning of the dialogue go wrong."
Are you not hurt that that channel did not give the show, its due in the end. "The telecast time was shifted to midnight in the last Saturday Sunday episodes. I was disappointed for kids must have not been able to watch the favourite show bid good bye. But I guess the channel bosses must have had their reasons", feels she.
If there was anything which did rankle Sweta was the constant uncertainty which plagued the show, since its return with Season 2. "We would always hear gossip that it will go off air but we could not take up fresh work until we were given formal notice". One more sore point with her was the fact that the show was not aired regularly. "It would be replaced by award ceremonies without notice. I would receive many mails and SMS from my fans asking why our show is not being aired. But again the channel saw it in a different light, the awards generate higher TRPs." I guess."
In closing, Sweta assures us that she will back soon in a major project and an equally good role.
