In a conversation with Shakti Mohan, she went back in the memory lane and spoke about her journey in Dance India Dance, her favourite incident and performance from the show, bond with the contestants and much more...

1.What was your first reaction when you heard that Dance India Dance season 2 was going to be aired again on Zee TV?

I was super-duper excited when I heard that Dance India Dance 2 was going to come back again. In fact, I can't believe I am getting to relive that time of my life once again. I consider this show to be as an opportunity of a lifetime for me, it changed my life and gave me so much love and recognition that I never expected I would get being a dancer.

 2. Is there any memorable incident from the show that you still clearly remember?

I remember standing in the line for the DID 2 auditions in Mumbai. I stood there all day, in the sun, without food and water, just to get a chance to perform in front of the judges. It was truly the turning point of my career. Then, I got selected and I was in ‘Terence ki toli.' I remember, Kruti Mahesh and I were in the same team and after rehearsals when we would come back to the bungalow where we were staying, we used to stay up all night and chat. We used to have so much fun, we would laugh so much and talk about anything and everything. But, the most overwhelming moment for me was to stand in front of thousands of people and get declared as the winner of the show. It was unreal and the most amazing thing that ever happened to me. I couldn't believe it and I just looked around, everybody was shouting my name and it really felt like a dream.

3.What is your absolute favourite dance performance of the season?

My favorite dance performance was the Khuda jaane duet performance that I did with Kunwar Amar. In fact, we had also received the best performance of that week for that act. I remember, we had practiced it for about 20 days and I still remember the whole routine after 10 years too! It was just magical.

 4. Which contestant were you close to? How has your bond with that person changed over the last few years?

I was, and I am close to Kruti (Mahesh), Punit (Pathak) and Dharmesh (Yelande) from Dance India Dance season 2. While generally people lose touch, I must say that are bond has definitely grown. In fact, we have experienced a lot together in the last 10 years, personally and professionally, and it's amazing to see how everyone from that season has received love and admiration from people around the world.

 5. What impact has DID had in your life?

To be honest, Dance India Dance is my identity. The best days of my life have been on the show. I got to learn so much, met the best teachers, choreographers and friends and most of all, I never ever thought that a dancer could get a platform like DID. I am very grateful to Zee TV for giving us this platform and changing our lives.

 6. What are you up to during this Lockdown? Any message you want to share with the people during the COVID-19 outbreak?

During this Lockdown, I am learning new dance styles from our faculty members every day. I actually run a dance studio called Nritya Shakti (Power of dance). So we have started a virtual classroom where students can continue training safely while being at home. So I am getting to dance and workout every day. My message to the people would be please stay home, stay healthy, focus on your mental well being and relax. Please take efforts to stay positive and be constructive. Also, spread the joy and love all the people around you.
