Sanika Amit on learning Tamil accent for her role in Colors ‘Mangal Lakshmi’

Actors today take on new challenges to make their characters feel real, and Sanika Amit is doing just that in COLORS’ popular show Mangal Lakshmi. She plays the role of Radha, a Tamil-speaking woman who is now married to Kartik (played by Shubham Dipta) after he loses his memory. Radha is not just trying to win back Kartik’s love—she’s also protecting her family from Jiya’s evil plans.

To make Radha believable, Sanika worked hard to learn the Tamil accent and body language. She wanted the audience to truly connect with Radha’s story and emotions. Her dedication has made the character feel more real and relatable.

Talking about her experience, Sanika said, “This role has been such an exciting journey for me. Radha is a fun character with a comic twist, and I enjoy bringing her to life. Her look is also very different—she has a typical South Indian appearance and a darker complexion, which makes her completely unrecognizable compared to Lakshmi. But playing a South Indian maid wasn’t easy. I had to practice my Tamil accent and make sure my pronunciation was right. It was important for me to sound natural because language is more than just words—it carries feelings and culture. I even learned Tamil words like Mannikkavum (Sorry) and Nanri (Thank You) to add authenticity.”

In the current track, Kartik finds out the truth about Radha but chooses not to tell everyone that she is actually Lakshmi. At the same time, Jiya finds old photos of Kartik and Lakshmi on the terrace and starts getting suspicious. Now, Kartik and Lakshmi are secretly working together to expose Jiya’s lies in front of the entire family.

With Sanika’s hard work and dedication, Radha’s story is becoming more interesting, and fans are loving the twists and turns.
