China's censorship has been rather inconsistent and more so unpredictable lately when it comes to passing a certificate on the films that are screened.

When it comes same sex romance or kissing, Michael Fassbender's kiss in Alien: Convenant was cut while the gay moment in Beauty and the Beast was screened without changes.

For now, there's another piece of positive news to look at as the same sex kiss scene in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has gone uncut by the Chinese censors.

Interestingly, China's stance on LGBTQ content has ranged from oppressive to inconsistent in recent years. Multiple Oscar-winner Brokeback Mountain was denied a release back in 2005, despite director Ang Lee's star status in the country.

Skywalker's director, J.J. Abrams, had hinted that such a moment would be coming. During the film's press tour he told Variety, "In the case of the LGBTQ community, it was important to me that people who go to see this movie feel that they’re being represented in the film."

We wonder what will be the case in India.
