Saiyaara’s blockbuster theatrical run forces makers to rethink OTT streaming date

After setting the box office on fire and winning hearts across the country, Saiyaara, starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, is making headlines once again, but this time, for its much-anticipated OTT release plans. The musical romantic drama, which has become a game-changer in 2025’s cinematic landscape, is now eyeing a festive release on Netflix during Diwali, instead of the originally expected September premiere.

Directed by Mohit Suri and produced under the Yash Raj Films banner, Saiyaara tells the emotional journey of Krish Kapoor, a struggling musician, and Vaani Batra, a passionate lyricist. Their shared love for music and their individual battles form the emotional core of the story, resonating deeply with audiences across age groups. Thanks to the fresh pairing and heartfelt performances by debutants Ahaan and Aneet, the film quickly turned into a sensation.

According to trade reports, Saiyaara has already collected a whopping Rs 153 crore at the box office, cementing its status as a certified blockbuster. NDTV noted that due to overwhelming demand, the film’s screen count jumped from 800 to over 2,000, with 11,000+ shows being held daily, an extraordinary feat for a debut-led project.

Initially, the film was expected to drop on Netflix around the second week of September, following the standard 8-week theatrical window. However, as per a recent report by Times of India, the makers are now in advanced discussions with Netflix to extend the theatrical run to 90 days. This move is driven by the continued audience frenzy and sustained ticket sales, leading them to consider a high-profile OTT debut during the Diwali 2025 weekend instead.

If plans go through, Saiyaara could become one of Netflix’s major festive releases, riding on the back of its theatrical success and fan following. However, this shift might impact the OTT schedule of other big-ticket films like War 2, which is also aiming for a Diwali digital release.
