Saif Ali Khan stabbing case: Police fear accused will flee India, opposes the bail plea

Saif Ali Khan was the victim of a violent knife attack during a robbery attempt at his Bandra residence on January 16, 2025. The encounter with the intruder left him injured, but Saif recovered. Mumbai police have contested the bail request of the Bangladeshi national implicated in the Saif Ali Khan stabbing case, which occurred in January. According to PTI, law enforcement officials presented the court with "strong evidence" against the accused.

The police, referencing a Forensic Science Laboratory report, reaffirmed their previous assertion to the sessions court. They stated that knife fragments discovered near the actor's spine, along with a piece found at the scene, corresponded to the weapon seized from Shariful Islam, the accused.

The police also argued that releasing the accused on bail could lead to him fleeing the country, preventing his appearance in court for the trial. "The crime committed by the accused is of a very serious nature and strong evidence is available against him," they argued.

This development follows the accused's bail application filed two days prior, where he dismissed the FIR as a "fictional story."

In a related incident, Saif Ali Khan was attacked at his Mumbai home on January 16th. The incident occurred around 2 AM when the actor responded to noises, discovering an attack on one of his female employees in Jeh's room. The intruder had gained access to Kareena’s youngest son, Jeh Ali Khan’s room. Later on, a house staff pressed the alarm after which Saif rushed in and stopped him, but got stabbed in the scuffle. He was later taken to the hospital by autorickshaw along with Taimur and underwent two surgeries. A 2.5-inch knife was recovered from his spine.

Shariful Islam is accused of breaking into Saif Ali Khan's Mumbai residence with the intention of robbery. He is also charged with attacking the actor and a staff member using a wooden weapon and a blade.

Following the attack, where Saif Ali Khan sustained six stab wounds, he was immediately taken to the hospital. The actor was later discharged on January 21st.
