Most of us are usually inspired by someone or the other to follow a certain professional path. Romiit Raaj too, was inspired by none other than two stalwarts of Hindi film industry. He talks about them.

“Yes, Amitabh Bachchan and Shammi Kapoor inspired me to become an actor. I always saw my Dad happiest watching their films, and I found my calling in wanting to entertain the audience,” says the actor, known for TV shows Shaka Laka Boom Boom, Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyann, Maayka, Khichdi, Kullfi Kumarr Bajewala, Yashomati Maiyaa Ke Nandlala, Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi and host of StarPlus' show, "Lux Perfect Bride".

Talking more about his role model being Amitabh Bachchan, he adds how he has followed his path in more ways than one, “In the last 21 years, I have always reached 15 minutes before my call time on the sets. I am never late, always well-behaved, and follow the instructions of my director. I agree that you need a mentor for personal growth in life and career, as they can be of great support and encouragement to you. A mentor helps you strengthen your weaknesses and supports you when you're low. A mentor fills your mind with positive thoughts and makes sure you reach your goal by giving your best.”

On whether he believes in a proper benchmark in acting, Romiit explains, “There is nothing called a benchmark for acting, as it's very subjective. You might like someone's performance, but the other person might disagree. A good performance that moves you and makes you feel satisfied from within is what touches the soul of an audience.”

Actors may be very good in their emotional scenes all the time, but what people forget is how the majority of actors go through personal emotional disturbances and at times need their space. Life is not easy for anyone.

“I think there is a very thin line for an actor in the real and reel worlds, so it gets even more disturbing when there is personal emotional disturbance. Most actors are very sensitive and get hurt very easily in their personal lives,” he says.

Ask if while doing emotional or dramatic scenes, he utilises her own emotion or uses glycerine, in short what process she goes through and Romiit adds, “I don't need glycerin when I do emotional scenes, I feel the moment and I perform. When you're the character and you feel from the heart, then tears roll down at the right line at the right time.”
