Rinku Ghosh, who has been part of the TV show Durgesh Nandini and films such as Daroga Babu I Love You, says that whether a woman is working or is a homemaker, she never has to lose her identity. She says that women are independent today, and that is also thanks to the men in their lives who share the load.

“We all know women have this inbuilt quality of multitasking. Whereas I feel that it is one's personal choice to be a homemaker or a working woman/mother. Today, most of us women are independent, and I think men have a lot to do with this change. Today a woman's father and her husband have become more supportive towards their daughter/wife's career. There's team work at home/kitchen. Today, women are not just expected to be in the kitchen.  And this welcome change is not just in metropolitan cities. This change is even in our rural area as well. Today, women are more liberal,” she says.

Work and career is very important not just for financial independence but even for one's identity, she says, adding that even a homemaker has a very important job to do. “Of course, work and career are important if you are an ambitious/career woman. By saying this I will not take away the identity of women who are homemakers. I have been one (homemaker) and I didn't lose my identity then too. Working is our personal choice sometimes to support our family and sometimes because we want to make a career. And let me tell you being a homemaker is the toughest job, which we do out of love without a complaint,” she says.

Emotional needs and emotional wants are two different things, and relationships today need to justify this, she says, adding, “I think today the meaning of relationships has changed a bit. It's more about compatibility. Today we just don't want a wife or husband, we want a friend for life. A friend who can understand and respect. For me that's my emotional requirement, where I can be myself without any inhibition.”

Talking about happiness, she says, “It's true that the idea of happiness varies from person to person. I feel we all are sometimes looking for materialistic happiness. For me, happiness comes in small things. I'm happy even in the smallest things. e.g when my husband sends me a random love message or when my niece eagerly waits for my return.” She adds, “I would say being professionally successful can bring a certain amount of satisfaction and happiness. As we all work hard. But it's not the only happiness in life. Life is much more than just work.”
