Richa Chadha Donates 600kgs Ration to Gurudwara

The COVID-19 pandemic is one of the biggest obstacles that has hit the nation. Right from essential food items to protective gears, there is a scarcity of necessary goods. The entire nation is facing a lockdown to prevent the spread of the virus. And while many people are safe inside their homes, a majority of underprivileged people are left with no source of income and thus finding it difficult to afford basic items of food and shelter.

Amidst such a scenario, a number of Bollywood celebrities have come forward to donate and extend help to the needy. Actress Richa Chadha has successfully donated 600 kgs of ration including wheat flour, pulses and rice to a local Gurudwara.

The actress put out a social media post asking her followers if anyone could suggest a wholesale ration dealer to help her procure the ration. She got in touch with a dealer who helped her secure 600 kg of ration including wheat flour, pulses and rice, which she recently donated to a local Gurudwara. The Gurudwara makes use of 250 kg of each of the three food items on a daily basis, and Richa’s donation comes as a big help.

“It’s not about the amount of money. It’s not about making the recipient pose with the donation received, that kills the spirit. Am only putting this out here, to inspire others to do whatever they can. If you can help out even ONE person through this time, it’s ok! But do. At least one ?

ALSO, to ask if you guys know any wholesale dealers. Last week, when I was inquiring around, I discovered that the Gurudwara near my house was feeding several hundreds of people a day ! They said they wouldn’t accept cash donations, only rations. I managed to procure some groceries, (supplies running low in neighbourhood kirana type stores. The minute one asks for more than 10Kgs one sound like a hoarder, people eye suspiciously)... hence figuring out where I can get bulk deliveries from in Mumbai. Plz help?Would like to do this often!” she had written alongside her Instagram post.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Richa stated that she doesn't like to publicise the amount she donate somewhere but in this case, as the donation was in kind, she wanted to share how Instagram helped her to get someone who could give her wholesale ration.

Richa says: "If it (my post) inspires somebody else to do something kind, then why the hell not? (But) Discussing money and how much people have donated, and how they ought to donate in crores or lakhs... I find that kind of talk a little obnoxious, and I think it puts people off.”

The actress had also shared the update with her followers after delivering the ration to the Gurudwara. Sharing a picture, she wrote: “lucky to have found someone via the gram that helped me in securing over 600 kgs of ration that I wanted to donate ! Feed the hungry !”
