Rajkummar Rao who recently appeared on a chat show revealed that he was the original choice for Meghana Gulzar's Chhapaak. The actor was offered to play the leading male opposite Deepika Padukone but had to let it go as his dates were full and the role eventually went to Vikrant Massey.
When asked about turning Chhapaak down, Rajkummar said, "I didn't turn it down. Of course not! I loved that script but my dates were so messed up. I'm so looking forward to that film. I kept telling Meghna and Deepika that it's my loss."
Chhapaak is based on the real life of an acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal and Rajkummar was offered a role that is modelled on Laxmi's former partner and journalist-turned-social activist Alok Dixit.
Chhapaak is also Deepika Padukone's first production venture.
In an interview earlier, Meghna Gulzar had stated that when she saw photos of Laxmi before the attack, the only person who came to her mind was Deepika. Chhapaak is one of the most awaited Bollywood films and is slated to release on January 10, 2020.
