"TV has nothing left to venture currently; stage is about LEARNING constantly."

Actor Anshuman Malhotra is no stranger to the entertainment industry and has now become one of the few actors to venture all the mediums of it; be it television, films, web or stage.

Yes! That's right. The actor who is best known for his TV stints in shows like Warrior High and Nagarjun - Ek Yoddha among others is all set to make his acting and production debut in theatre with the upcoming play, Charlie and the Tin Can.

We got in contact with Anshuman about the venture and he had some interesting insight to share -

So, as known, this is my debut in theatre not only as an actor but also as a producer and I am really excited about it. A few of my friends got together and were already involved with the idea of this play. The director and writer of the play, Srikant Bhatt is my best friend and with him, I decided to produce this play too. After my show last year and Class Of 2017 (Alt Balaji web show), I had some time to myself and I wanted to invest it in the right manner. It is no secret that stage is the purest form of acting and I am glad to be participating in it.

To be very honest, it is not as easy as it looks. To act and improvise on stage is the toughest and I am constantly learning everyday. For me, acting is one thing, but I want to keep learning something new with every passing day. Everyday, we get together and rehearse and I am failing with things, but that also means I am learning. That is what I like doing best. Infact, I have decided that I will give television a break and do stage for a while and will stick to this medium.

Frankly, television currently has nothing new to offer, but I cannot rule out the practical nature that it is the same medium which offers the most amount of money. I did a TV show last year and earned enough to take a break and do something that satisfies my creative juices. If and when I need money again, I would surely take up a good TV show because I would be lying if I say it 'doesn't matter.'

So, there is a Hollywood film called Terminal starring Tom Hanks from whom our play is inspired. It is about how a guy is stranded at an airport for a long time due to unanticipated circumstances and during his stay at the airport, he comes in contact with 5 or 6 different individuals and how the lot manages to find solutions to their conflicts is what the story premise consists of.

The background is like these different individuals belong to a fictitious place called Gibbertoniya and they speak gibberish but are creatively inclined and follow Charlie Chaplin. It is a play for all ages and everyone can enjoy it.

I wouldn't mind being a part of a film, but I am at an age where I neither look too young or too old, so I have to wait for an apt character. I did get an offer where they asked me to play the villain in a film and I wouldn't want to do a villain for the sake of it. The character was small, even though it was a big film. So, I will take up a film only when it suits my personality.
