Radhika Apte, take a bow!!!

You must be thinking why I started with such a canny line. But, trust me you too will say the same lines when you leave the theatre because Radhika surely has given a fantastic performance.

Ok let me give you the glimpse of the story first:

'Phobia' is a psychological thriller about a girl Mehak Deo (Radhika Apte) who is a flawless painter. Then an untoward incident takes place and from here begins the story. After the incident she starts suffering from Agoraphobia - a fear of open public spaces - and thus cannot step out of the house and remains indoors, which later manifests itself into panic attacks and paranormal delusions.

How she is consumed by the fear of actual and anticipated situations which permeates her whole being and her struggle to cope with it, forms the crux of this film.

One after the other a series of happenings take place which keep you intrigued in the film. The second half comes with a roller coaster of twist and turns and at many intervals you feel the movie is nearing its end but just when you feel it's over, comes a new turn and the story flips.

The turn of events in the final climax is sure to surprise you because, one it's completely unpredictable and two it's gives out a good conclusion to the movie.

About the characters:

Radhika Apte is the whole and soul of the film. The complete story rests upon her shoulders and without any doubt she has pulled of her character of the phobic very well. She has flawlessly portrayed a catalogue of emotions with ease. Her fears and how she deals with imaginary situations are real and palpable, making you sit on the edge of your seat. She matches the physical appearance of her inner mind, looking harried and unkempt, without an iota of glamour.

Satyadeep Mishra plays Shaan, her friend and support system. Though he has less screen time but in all that space as well he has justified and lived up to his supporting character.

Overall:

Director Pawan Kripalani who is the anchor of the ship has made sure that his ship sails smoothly across all waters. Be it the narratives, camera angles or screen play; everything was up to the mark. At no point will you feel the need to take your eyes off the screen. He has made sure to keep his audience hooked to the seats.

The jump scares and the apt background score are a cherry on the cake that makes you clutch your seats in fright.

So this weekend, if you want to have a dose of thrill and wish to squirm in fright; then ‘Phobia’ becomes a must watch!
