Oscars 2022: Will Smith punches Chris Rock over joke about his wife

The 94th Academy Awards took place on March 27 in Los Angeles. And for a while now, the ceremony has been in the news owing to the scuffle or sorts between Will Smith and Chris Rock. The latter was on stage to present the Oscar for documentary feature. 

It was when Chris made a joke about Will's wife Jada Pinkett Smith being in G.I. Jane, Will went to the stage and in fact, punched Chris for making fun of his wife. Upon returning to his seat, he also mentioned, "Keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth!" 

Sean Combs, who was the next presenter, mentioned how they would solve this like family and that they will move on ahead, with love.

Will, while accepting his Best Actor award at the Oscars, however, apologised for his conduct and in fact, mentioned what Denzel Washington told him post the aforementioned incident. In his speech, he said what he was told, mentioning, "At your highest moment, be careful, that’s when the devil comes for you."

The Academy's official handle has also reacted to the incident on social media and netizens aren't happy with Will's behaviour after all.
