Pankaj Tripathi made his debut in 2004 with Omkara, but it was his breakthrough performance in 2012 Gangs of Wasseypur film series that made him the recipient of critical acclaim. He has worked in more than 40 films and 60 television shows, and impressed the audience with his impeccable work in films like  Fukrey (2013), Masaan (2015), Nil Battey Sannata (2016), Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017), Newton (2017), Fukrey Returns (2017) and Stree (2018), to name a few.

However, it was not a smooth ride for him as he faced his share of struggles and reveals that his wife single-handedly dealt with the family’s expenses when he had no work. But, he also says that he cherishes those days as well.

“I remember I had no work and my wife used to teach in a school in Mumbai and she used to run the house all alone. Our basic necessities used to be fulfilled by her salary. But I don’t think I had a very sad struggle story. I never had to sit under the street light or sleep on the railway station. We were staying in a small one-room kitchen house and those days were also amazing,” shares the Mirzapur actor.

Pankaj who graduated from the National School of Drama revealed what kept him going through the tough times and states that hat it was his love for the craft that helped him get through the dark days. “When you love something so strongly, it can make you face any kind of hardship in the world. My love for acting helped me survive my tough times. Even now, I love my craft so much that I sit in the bathroom and think about the character,” he said.

He further adds, “I also read a lot and that has helped me in getting new insights and explore the world of cinema and literature.”

The 43-year-old actor, who had quite a successful year is gearing up for some really exciting projects lined up ahead in the new year. Talking about the challenges he faces, he states: “To maintain the trust of people on you is very challenging. And now, life has become too hectic for the past one year as I’ve worked continuously in six-seven projects. For me, saying no to work is a big struggle and the challenge is to keep up with the health. I’m a very slow paced actor. I can’t do too much of running around.”

Meanwhile, Pankaj Tripathi has his calendars full of upcoming films like '83, Mumbai Saga, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, Angrezi Medium, and Ludo.
