Unpredictable, dynamic, irresolute….. These are just a few words to describe the entertainment world which changes with a blink of an eye. The trends, the fashion, and the mannerisms; everything changes within a fraction of second.

Fasten your seatbelts as I take you to the era of 90's when television channels were filled with music videos of Alisha Chenoy, Daler Mehndi, Pankaj Udhas, Anuradha Paudwal and of course the remixes. The songs featured the youngest and fresh faces of those days with the ever retrieved songs that we still hum at times. And not to forget, these videos have given us some of the popular faces on television today.

More than ads, music videos were used as a medium for young aspiring actors to enter the industry. Surprisingly, these videos were more popular than movie tracks and were watched every single time they were played on all music channels. The fairy tales and the videos were always a pleasure to watch than the three hour long movies. But as we all know, the active world of entertainment always demands a change and the trend of music videos slowly started to fade. Will the trend ever come back? Will the actors be willing to be part of it if it comes back?

Aryans was a popular band those days and the Coffee Shop song 'Dekha Hain Teri Aankho Ko' hit the screens with a dhamaaka. Sailesh Gulabni and Nandini Singh sizzled in their cute and adorable roles. Shailesh shares, "Those were wonderful times of my life where I did music videos and all were popular. After Dekha Hain, I received a great response where I was called for auditions and shows. Music videos are definitely a great platform for youngsters, but at the same time I have a doubt whether the trend will come back as people tend to forget it fast."

Nandini Singh excitedly says, "I really miss those days where we used to travel a lot. I had once travelled to Switzerland for a shoot. If you take in a business perspective, the coverage the music videos had was awesome where every channel played it repeatedly."

"I used to work as an air hostess during those days and when people recognized me they used to ask for autographs and click pictures. I would love to be part of it again if given a chance", adds Nandini.

Falguni Pathak and her songs were most adored during those days and faces like Iqbal Khan, Vivan Bhathena, Riya Sen, Ayesha Takia and many more were known through her albums. Vivan Bhathena who won the Mr India title in 2001, became the heartthrob of a million after he appeared in Falguni Pathak's popular Puppet song 'Maine Payal Hain Chankayi.'

"Youngsters got a lot of recognition and exposure through music videos. But today when we compare the intensity, the craze no longer exists", Vivan Bhathena opens up.

Vivan shares a rather unfortunate experience he had, "There was music video for which we had to go to Rajastan. Half way of the shoot the singer came up and said he wants to be the main lead. I had to return by myself after that."

Anuradha Poudwal's Chhodi Bhi Zid Pe had become a popular dance number when it had released. Aamir Ali who played the lead shares, "Music videos were bigger than ads where the quality was maintained well. We had actually gone to Tiger Point in Lonavala to shoot the song wherein I had a lot of fun."

"But today I guess it is difficult to get the trend back because the market is such that people download latest songs online. Those days, people used to buy cassettes a lot which was profit for the makers", Aamir adds.

After the days of music albums came the era for remixes and how can we forget the gorgeous Drashti Dhami in Saiyaan Dil Main Aana Re and the glamorous Mahhi Vij in Ye Wada Rahan. Drashti Dhami shot up to fame after the video and she was approached with umpteen offers from the entertainment world. Mahhi even went on to do films in South wherein she even shared screen space with the National Award winner Mammooty. "It was actually fun doing music videos and I never expected Yeh Wada to be a hit", shares Mahhi.

Jay Bhanushali appeared as a tapori in Prajakta Shukre's debut album and as a playboy in Najam Sheraz's Khwabon Ke Rishtey. "Music videos are fun and different to do and I would like to be a part of it once again if something good comes up. Khwabon Ke Rishtey had a great concept and that was the reason I took it up", Jau Bhanushali shares.

Jay remembers, "Prajakta always asked me how we shoot for long hours in front of the camera because that was her first video. I had also got injured while shooting and today when I meet her I say maine khun paseena ek kar diya video ke liye."

Actors like Dino Morea, John Abraham, Simone Singh, Vidya Balan all made their maiden step in entertainment with music videos and we can definitely say, music videos indeed have made Super Stars.

These music videos certainly bring in a nostalgic feeling, not just for the actors but also for the viewers. Should they come back? What do you say?
