Munmun Dutta shares her inspiring journey: “My first paycheck was Rs 125”

Popular actress Munmun Dutta, best known for her role in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, recently opened up about her humble beginnings and how they shaped her relationship with money.

In a candid interview with a leading portal, she recalled earning her first paycheck at the young age of seven and how that small amount meant the world to her.

“I was just seven when I earned Rs 125 for singing on All India Radio,” she shared. “I gave that money to my mom, and she kept it safe. That moment still feels very special to me.”

Munmun grew up in a lower middle-class family where money was managed carefully. She learned the importance of saving and planning early in life. “Even when I started earning regularly as an actress, I never had the urge to spend carelessly,” she said. “I always focused on saving or investing my earnings in something that mattered.”

One of her biggest dreams was to own a house in Mumbai. At a time when she was attending multiple auditions, her idea of a treat was practical rather than extravagant. “Whenever I had some extra money, I used it to pay my rent in advance—maybe for two or three months. That way, I could continue auditioning without worrying about basic survival,” she explained.

Even after achieving stability in her acting career, Munmun didn’t rush into living a lavish lifestyle. “I stayed in a paying guest accommodation for a long time, even though I was working regularly,” she said. “I waited until I could afford a small place of my own before moving out.”

Her grounded approach to money has remained unchanged over the years. Munmun shared that she continues to treat money with a lot of respect. “I love money, and I respect it deeply,” she said. “I’ve always been mindful about how I use it, and that habit still guides me today.”
