Meet brothers to act less and sing more now

New Delhi, June 11 (IANS) Singer-composer duo Meet brothers, who were seen in popular TV serials and advertisements, say they will focus on music from now on as acting was just temporary and never a priority for them.

'Music has always been my first priority and acting was never very important for me,' Manmeet, the elder of the two brothers - the younger being Harmeet - who was seen in the popular soap 'Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi', told IANS.

He said it was very hard for the duo to cut through the competition in the music industry in the initial years. It was at this time that he took up acting.

'When we entered the industry, a lot of established singers were already there and it took us two years to make our mark. It was during those years that acting came up,' explained Manmeet, who has also appeared in shows like 'Kalash' and 'Amanat'.

Harmeet also did his bit by appearing in advertisements for Anchor switches and Mayur Suitings to earn a living.

The brothers began acting in school plays ever since they were seven years old.

'We used to act in school plays, but we were never too much into theatre. Music remained our love,' Harmeet said.

It was when Manmeet and Harmeet were respectively aged 12 and 10 that they began exercising their vocal chords. They came into the limelight for their controversial song 'Bhai Tune Pappi Kyun Li?', which they crooned with singer Mika. The song was a take on the Punjabi singer's kissing controversy with item girl Rakhi Sawant.

Though both of them have had stints with television, they have no plans to return to acting in the near future.

'Right now we're concentrating on singing,' Harmeet maintained.

In May, Manmeet and Harmeet started their own music company - Meet Bros Music Co. Through this, they are trying to promote young talent and give them a suitable platform.

'We had launched Neha Kakkar with the album 'Neha The Rockstar'. Singing is a wonderful form of self-expression and our music company is a great platform for budding artistes,' Harmeet said.

Asked why they decided to start such a project, he said: 'India needs an international singer and pop is a genre with scope for versatility.'

After Neha, who was a contestant on music reality show 'Indian Idol', the duo now plan to bring a new voice to the music scene.

They will make their next album with Mumbai-based Nikita, 23.

'Nikita is a newcomer from Mumbai. She is a very good singer and we are encouraging youngsters who want to take up singing as a profession,' said Harmeet.

According to him, their new find Nikita is a good dancer and 'looks a lot like Aishwarya Rai' too.
