Makar Sankranti, a significant Hindu festival is celebrated on January 14th every year. It marks the beginning of the sun's journey towards the northern hemisphere, symbolizing the end of winter and the arrival of longer days. The festival is traditionally celebrated by flying kites, taking holy dips in rivers, and exchanging sweets made of sesame seeds and jaggery. It's a time for renewal, reflection, and rejoicing with family and friends.
Sachin Parikh, who essays the character of in Zee TV’s Vasudha, recently got in an exclusive chat with us and spoke to us about the importance of this festival to him. Sachin said, “For Gujaratis, Makar Sankranti or Uttarayan is not just a festival; it’s an emotion. I have vivid memories of my childhood when we would wake up early, gather all our kites, and spend the entire day on the terrace with family and friends, engaging in friendly competitions and shouting ‘Kai Po Che!’ with every victory.”
Recalling the delicacies, Sachin says, “My mother’s special Undhiyu and Jalebi were the highlights of the day, adding sweetness to the celebrations. Even now, no matter how busy life gets, I make it a point to relive those memories and bring some of that joy into my present. This year, while shooting for Vasudha, I plan to bring kites and sweets for my cast and crew to celebrate together. Here’s wishing everyone a colourful and joyous Makar Sankranti – may this festival fill your lives with happiness and abundance.”
