Legendary Singer Mohammad Rafi’s Biopic Announced, Umesh Shukla To Helm the Project

Mohammad Rafi's son, Shahid Rafi, has officially announced a biopic on the legendary singer's extraordinary life. Renowned filmmaker Umesh Shukla, known for his work in “OMG – Oh My God!” and “102 Not Out,” is in talks to direct the film. The formal announcement will take place next month to commemorate Rafi's 100th birth anniversary on December 24, 2024.

During a session titled “Aasmaan Se Aaya Farishta – Mohammad Rafi – The King of Melody”, Shahid shared exciting updates. He said, “The announcement will be made in December. I am making a biopic on Rafi sahab… It is going to be the life story of Rafi sahab. Songs will also be part of the biopic.” He added, “We have made a contract with Umesh Shukla, director of OMG – Oh My God! and 102 Not Out. It will be a full-fledged feature film.”

The event featured personalities like Sharmila Tagore, Sonu Nigam, Anuradha Paudwal, and Subhash Ghai. As part of the tribute, Sharmila and Sonu performed the iconic 1967 track “Aasmaan Se Aaya Farishta” from An Evening in Paris. The event, which began on November 20, celebrated Rafi's immense contribution to Hindi cinema. His evergreen hits were showcased, evoking nostalgia among fans and industry veterans alike.

Rafi's voice remains unforgettable, with timeless songs like “Likhe Jo Khat Tujhe”, “Dard-E-Dil Dard-E-Jigar”, and “Aaj Mausam Bada Beimaan Hai.” Throughout his illustrious career, the maestro lent his voice to over 1,000 films in multiple languages. At the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), a heartfelt tribute was paid to Rafi along with cinematic icons Raj Kapoor, Tapan Sinha, and Akkineni Nageshwar Rao.
