Star Plus launched one of its much awaited projects Koi Laut Ke Aaya Hai last night with much fanfare. And staying true to their spooky theme, the makers planned the event at an equally spooky suburban hotel that has been shut down due to unknown reasons.

We sat down with the leads of the show Surbhi Jyoti and Shoaib Ibrahim and got them talking about Koi Laut Ke Aaya Hai and much more.

Finally you and Shoaib are back with Koi Laut Ke Aaya Hai...

Surbhi: The title is so apt for me and Shoaib as we too have come back. Actual mein kaun laut ke aaya hai uske liye aapko show dekhna padega. We are very excited for the audience's response because when you do something good, with a lot of hard work, you get to know that this thing is gonna work.

Shoaib: We are working very hard for this show; all because we want to present our fans with something different and exciting. TV is a medium that has an extremely wide reach, irrespective of the age and we are working very hard for the same.

Shoaib, we saw Surbhi recently in Ishqbaaaz, but you will be back on screen after a very long time.

When I left Sasural Simar Ka, I was in a really bad shape. So my foremost target was to make myself fit, then I did a film that will be releasing soon. I was offered Koi Laut Ke Aaya Hai after my film. And when I heard the story, it was like wow, I should do it. There are some shows and characters that you feel you should do. It's a good show with good characters, good script, good channel. All we want is the audience's love.

Surbhi, after Zoya and Mallika, what made you choose Geetanjali?

You've seen me in 'Qubool Hai,' where I played 5 characters, Mallika in Ishqbaaaz and then I am playing Meera in Tanhaiyaan. I liked the story and my character was beautifully written, even beautifully conceived; I felt like it was tailor made for me. I was craving to play Geetanjali and even pictured myself playing it. I am very happy to be playing the role as it is very different. Also, Geetanjali is very different from Surbhi and the only thing that coincides is our honesty. Apart from that, there is no similarity between Surbhi and Geetanjali and that was very challenging.

How did you both bond with each other?

Surbhi: When we were traveling from the airport to Bikaner's Gajner Palace, there were really boring songs that were playing in the car. Then Shoaib asked me if he could play from his phone. And Oh My God! I felt like he had asked me and made the playlist. He had all the old hindi songs. Music is something that bonds people and that's what happened. For me, the second bond that I form is over chai, because no one drinks tea nowadays. One was music, other was chai and then as he said, photos. We are shooting together all the time so yes.

Shoaib: I love listening to old hindi songs, so yeah! And of course, selfies!

You both were a part of your respective daily soaps for a very long time. So was the fact that Koi Laut...' being a finite series a criteria for you both while taking up the show?

Surbhi: Absolutely. There is no point dragging the show now. We know the story from the start to end. We know the in and out of the characters we are playing. So there is no question of getting bored of playing the same character. When the script came to us, we straightened our backs and geared up. You guys will definitely bite your nails while watching Koi Laut Ke Aaya Hai.

Our characters are very very unpredictable. There is no continuous trait that you will get to see. How Geetanjali reacts to every situation is a surprise for me myself.

Shoaib: Exactly. There is nothing to stretch in the show. It is like a movie. It's a series. We've got to play a different shade of our character in every episode of the series. So that was the best part for us. What happens with daily soaps is that there is one character that keeps going on and on and on.

Supernatural is the trend of the season.

Surbhi: But we will not be following the trend. We will be the trendsetters. Our show does not fall in the category of a horror show or a paranormal show. It is a thriller show. And every person has a thrill in him/her.

Both of you'll are playing roles that you have never played before. How did both of you get into the skin of the character?

Surbhi: I took innumerable narrations and bombarded my writers about how Geetanjali is and why is she the way she is. We had an entire session to clear my doubts and for me to get into the skin of Geetanjali's character.

Shoaib: Since I am playing an army officer, I had to first adapt the look of one and hence get into shape. I had to get the look and feel of an army character. Physically, I've worked very hard. And as Surbhi said, we have had many discussions with our writers and once we were on set, our director helped us even more.

Well, the leads seem to be very excited for their show obviously. How excited are you guys? Leave in your comments below.
