Kangana slams Anupama Chopra after Vidhu Chopra revealed that his wife asked him to put '12th Fail' on OTT

Touted to be amongst the best films of 2023, 12th Fail has continued to surprise one and all with its continued glorious run at the box office. Having been released back at the end of October, the film has been rock steady, tackled competition from all aspects, fought biggies like Animal, Salaar and Dunki, among others and even had an OTT release on ZEE5.

In spite of all this, 12th Fail still runs in theatres, and, in fact, the film recently completed 100 days and posted a release on OTT; the film witnessed a rejuvenation and earned some more moolah. Needless to say, not many predicted the film's glorious run at the box office, and it took director Vidhu Vinod Chopra's undeterred faith in his product to stand by his guns and have the film released on the big screen.

At a recently held successful meet, Chopra said, “When we were releasing this film, I was told by everyone, including my dearest wife, to put it out on OTT. She said, ‘Nobody will go to see Vinod. Teri film aur Vikrant ki film ko dekhne koi nahin jayega (laughs). I would like to tell this clearly today in front of everyone. (She said) ‘Koi nahin jayega. Tujhe pata nahin hai, tu filmo ke saath connected nahin hai. Tujhe pata nahin hai, jayega hi nahin koi.’ And there are these agencies who write, ‘Rs. 2 lakhs ki opening’, ‘Rs. 30 lakhs ka lifetime business’. Mujhe dara diya sabne. But still, I believed in the film, so we put in our own money to publicize it. And it opened very small. But that’s okay. And look at where we are.”

Sharing these comments, actor Kangana Ranaut, who is known to have a tiff with Anupama Chopra went on to make further comments about the same as she posted on Instagram, saying, "Vidhu Sir's wife Anupama Chopra is a disgrace in the name of a film journalist, she is not only xenophobic but also deeply jealous and insecure of younger and intelligent women, no wonder she is jealous of her own husband, on whose name and wealth she built her website and other small businesses, got her Bollywood wife card to flaunt in filmi parties and ganged up with gossip gangs of Bollywood against genuine talent and good films"-

Later in the event, Anupama Chopra admitted to having said the aforementioned to Vidhu Vinod Chopra before the film’s release. She said, “He is right. I did say who will come to the theatres to see this film. So I am saying I was wrong, and you were right.”
