In the course of its relationship with Indian audiences spanning over three decades now, Zee TV, through its storytelling, has always endeavored to inspire viewers to draw from their inner strength and take charge of their destinies to shape a better tomorrow. A remarkable example that embodies this ethos is the story of a father from Jharkhand who celebrated his daughter's return with a baraat after she bravely ended her abusive marriage. We see a lot of people talk about bringing about change in society, but very few take that first step. In a society where divorce remains taboo and girls are often unfairly held responsible for the failure of a marriage, a father like Prem Gupta shines as a beacon of hope for countless Indian daughters seeking acceptance within their own families should their marriage not work out. Stories such as this hold the potential to spark off much-needed change and encourage more and more parents to stand by their children when they are facing a troubled marriage. Instead of bowing down to ‘Log Kya Kahenge’ and enduring a painful partnership that chips away at her self-esteem, causes her much emotional distress, and destroys her individuality, when a daughter is told that it is okay for her to come back home, it sets an example for countless other parents across the country to not make their own daughters suffer in silence! Realizing how this story deserves to be told on national television in order to reach the largest denominator, the creative team at Zee TV extended an invitation to this remarkable father to visit the sets of their iconic singing reality show, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, where the legendary Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty was visiting as a special guest.
On hearing how this father reversed the traditional customs of a baraat and bidaai by welcoming his daughter back with a grand procession complete with drums and celebratory fireworks, judge Neeti Mohan was reminded of her own father, who has raised his immensely talented and successful daughters to stand up for themselves and never endure any injustice. In fact, Neeti added that their father made it very clear that his daughters would not be bound by a different rulebook just because they’re girls!
On hearing about this revolutionary step taken by her father, everyone was left emotional, as it laid the foundation for a better tomorrow for our society. Along with a standing ovation, this is what our judges and Mithun Da had to say.
Mithun Chakraborty said, “I am out of words after listening to your agonizing story. You’re a tiger! I must say that until there are parents like you, no daughter will have to put up with any kind of pain. I also have a daughter, and when I was watching your video, I was literally shivering. I will pray that you don’t have to face any more difficulties in your life.”
Neeti Mohan said, “I want to thank you because you have encouraged people by taking this big step, and the world has seen it. Your story has become viral, and this has motivated a lot of people whose daughters are somehow getting tortured by their in-laws. I am very happy to see all of you, as my father has also raised the four of us sisters like this. He told us to never care about what society will say and to never endure anything that’s wrong.”
Anu Malik said, “I am really elated to meet all of you today. We have listened to your gut-wrenching story, but I must say, Sakshi, you are very lucky to get parents like them.”
By taking this step, Mr. Prem has not only set a new precedent but also paved the way for other parents to follow suit and create a brighter future for their children. This inspiring narrative, which beautifully embodies Zee TV's brand philosophy of ‘Aaj Likhenge Kal,’ is sure to leave your family inspired!
