Jamie Lever recalls a traumatising experience from childhood

Popular comedian Jamie Lever and daughter of the well-known Bollywood actor Johny Lever has recently opened up about some difficult experiences from her past. These events significantly impacted her, leading her to avoid men for a considerable time. Jamie shared a disturbing incident where a stranger exposed himself and engaged in a lewd act in front of her near her school. At the time, Jamie was a student at Jamnabai Narsee International School in Mumbai’s Vile Parle.

Recalling a horrifying experience, Jamie told Hauterrfly, “My driver asked me to sit inside the car after school. I was sitting at the backseat with my friend and we were waiting for my brother. A man came and stood outside the car…he flashed and he started masturbating. I was so shocked that I didn’t understand what was happening. I was shaking because I thought he’ll open the car door. I slowly locked the doors and when he realised we were not looking at him, he walked off."

The actress added, “It was so disturbing. I was only 10-12 years old when this happened. I didn’t tell my parents because I didn’t understand what happened. I did not even discuss this with the friend who I was with because we were traumatised."

Jamie also shared that the school bus conductor, whose job was to ensure the children's safety, would occasionally hold and inappropriately touch them.

Recalling another incident, Jamie said, “Once, I was coming down the stairs at Andheri station and a man came and flashed in front of me. I froze as I didn’t understand what happened and why it happened. My friend pulled me and asked me to just keep walking. All these things disturb you. It’s now that I feel that I have the courage to stand up for myself and react."

Jamie added, “To be honest, all these things are like a bad dream to me. You don’t want to go back and revisit these things. I’ve suppressed these incidents in my subconscious. Also, because of these scary incidents, I didn’t let men come close to me for many years. Dating, relationships and even talking to men happened much later in my life. I started opening up when I was in London for my post-graduation."

Jamie's Bollywood journey began in 2015 with Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon, alongside Kapil Sharma and Elli AvrRam. She went on to star in films such as Housefull 4, Bhoot Police, Yaatris, and Crakk. In 2024, she ventured into the South Indian film industry, making her Telugu debut with Aa Okatti Adakku.
