Ira Khan opens up about how her parents Aamir and Reena's divorce impacted her mental well-being

Ira Khan, Aamir Khan's daughter, is the founder and CEO of a mental health support organization. She has openly shared her battle with depression and advocates for mental health awareness alongside her father. Recently, she addressed her parents, Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta's separation, initially believing it had no impact on her. However, she later realized the importance of acknowledging her emotions. Ira also expressed gratitude that her parents always ensured she felt loved and secure.

During a chat with Pinkvilla, Ira Khan looked back on her childhood and revealed that she initially believed her parents' split had no impact on her. Khan elaborated that despite their separation, they presented a united front for their children and shielded them from any conflicts.

"They never fought around us and always presented a united front, and the families loved each other throughout the whole thing. I was like, no, this divorce cannot be something that is affecting me in a negative manner," she recalled.

But, she recognized that her parents' separation wasn't a "one-day thing; it was a significant event that altered their lives." As she matured, her perspective shifted. She expressed, "I grew up and i realized that something broke a relationship ended right. Maybe it ended for the better, but still something got ended right. So, there is a certain amount of pain that comes with anything breaking anything ending which I refuse to look at consciously as a kid."

She noted, "Even if it ended for the better, there's a certain amount of pain that comes with anything breaking. As a kid, I refused to acknowledge that pain."

Even though it kinda helped her, she had some big 'aha' moments and said, "I've since discussed this with my therapist, and I've learned that while there's no need to blame anyone, it's important to acknowledge what happened."

She further said, "My parents did a great job in making us feel safe and secure that even though they are separating we will still be loved equally and the family will still be a family um so that they managed very well."

Aamir Khan tied the knot with Reena Dutta in 1986, and after 16 years of togetherness, they went separate ways in 2002. Ira Khan, the younger kiddo of Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta, came into the world in 1997 and recently walked down the aisle with fitness coach Nupur Shikhare in January 2024.
