One of the most talented and versatile actors of television, Iqbal Khan is all set to make his debut with Ullu App’s upcoming web series, The Bull Of Dalal Street. Iqbal will be seen playing a common man, who rose to become one of the most influential brokers in short span of time and then it ended in a financial mess in no time at all. It’s an endearing rags-to-riches tale and Iqbal will be seen in yet another different avatar in this one.
In an exclusive chat with India Forums, Iqbal Khan got up, close and personal about his character in the web series, getting back on television and much more.
You’re making your digital debut with Ullu App’s The Bull King Of Dalal Street. Why did you choose this series?
I didn’t choose it, it actually came to me. It was an interesting story and I have a certain block towards certain things and aspects of web which my wife helped me to get over. To me, the story and the way it’ll be made is the main thing. I’ve been doing television since the last 15 years now and started with movies before that, but after doing TV for so long, web platform is a pleasant change. It’s a platform where I as an actor can perform he subtly because on TV everything is overdone. Luckily, I bonded well with my director Deepak Pandey, we were on the same page from the very beginning.
Tell us about your character in the series
The name of my character is Harshil Mehra and he’s basically someone who comes from a small town and wants to make it big. The only thing that he has when he comes to Bombay is that he has a very sharp mind and he uses that and gets into stock market. It’s basically the rise and fall of this character.
We’ve seen rags-to-riches tale a lot, so is it inspired by some real life character or story because similar story with similar name has also been announced
I don’t know. As far as I know, it’s fictional. A lot of stories can be made with the same concept, of course there are some elements in our web show which will not have link to anybody, that’s what I believe.
Do you have any similarities with your on screen character?
Not at all, I have zero similarities with my character.
We haven’t seen you doing television shows a lot lately, so when can we expect you back?
I’m not saying no to television, but the kind of shows that are being made currently and the kind of roles that have been offered is not what I want to do. I’m not really kicked about it. God has been kind and this series came my way. I’m excited for this and I hope it works.
The cast has recently completed shooting for the series and it is expected to release next year in January.
