Chandigarh, Oct 21 (IANS) Canada-based Indian businesswoman Meera launched her debut Punjabi album 'My Ranjha' here that celebrates her 'special bonding' with Punjab.

'I was born and brought up in Jalandhar, but 15 years back I migrated to Canada. Since then I am based in Toronto and running my jewellery business there,' Meera, who launched the album Monday here, told IANS.

'Despite living away from my homeland, I always enjoyed a special bonding with Punjab in one way or the other. This music album is the result of this wonderful sense of unity with Punjab,' added Meera who is here to promote her album.

'There are nine tracks in my album, eight in Punjabi and one in Hindi. The unique selling proposition of my album is its versatility. You will find Punjabi dhol, western beats, hip-hop and melodious soothing touch in it.

'As I do not believe in remix or experiments, every song in my album has its own uniqueness and originality. That is why it took me three years to complete it,' pointed out Meera.

'I started singing at a very young age. My first teacher was my mother who was also a trained singer. I won many awards in various competitions at school and college level but had to leave singing in between due to some personal reasons.'

'My Ranjha' is an amalgamation of earthy Punjabi lyrics with the new age music.

Before moving to Canada, Meera had won the Miss Jalandhar title and worked with Doordarshan in Jalandhar. She used to host a show called 'Punjabi Lehren'.

'For the past 15 years, I am hosting a TV show in Toronto on the latest trends in fashion and jewellery. I also have my own half-hour television programme called 'Hello-G' - a programme on Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu poetry,' said Meera.
