Thalapathy Vijay charts a new course; launches political party 'Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam'

In a significant development, Tamil cinema's beloved superstar, Vijay, popularly known as Thalapathy, has officially entered the political arena by launching his own political party in Tamil Nadu. The move comes after leaders of the Tamizha Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) appointed him as the party chief, christening it "Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam," loosely translating to "Tamil Nadu Victory Party." This strategic step positions Vijay as a formidable player in the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections in 2026.

Vijay, who has often been regarded as the next Rajinikanth of Tamil cinema, announced that his party would not contest the Lok Sabha election. Moreover, the TVK, under his leadership, has decided not to extend support to any other party, as resolved in its recent general council and executive council meetings.

Expressing his commitment to both cinema and politics, Vijay assured that he would fulfill his film commitments without compromising his dedication to public service and political responsibilities. This decision was met with spontaneous celebrations among his ardent fan base in the state, known for stars seamlessly transitioning from the silver screen to the political arena, following in the footsteps of legends like MG Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa.
