Only For Singles

It’s raining web content and how! Everyone is in a rat race to produce more and more web series on relevant topics. The maximum viewership of web content comes from youth and hence the makers purposely create relatable content keeping them in mind. MX Player is coming up with a new web series named Only For Singles, a youth-based series based on the lives of singles and their struggles. Directed by Samar Iqbal, the series features Pooja Banerjee, Vivaan Shah, Shirin Sewani, Dipti, Gulshan Nain and Aman Uppal. Interestingly, the talented artist Javed Jaffery has dubbed for the trailer of the series.

In a candid conversation with India Forums, Pooja Banerjee speaks about the series, her character and things she misses about her single life.

Tell us about the narrative of Only For Singles and your character in the series.

It’s a classic comedy and a really light-hearted one. It’s about six friends who are single and they stay together and it’s basically a chaos. It’s something very relatable with the youth and even the dialogues are very funny, witty and catchy. Our target audience is youth and I think they will really relate to the storyline.

Speaking about my character, I play a young Bengali girl called Appu who is a lawyer but not that successful. She belongs to a typical Bengali family and is very quarrelsome and because of her nature she always gets into a fight with her flatmates.

Do you relate to your character?

No, not at all. I don’t fight like Appu does. The only common thing between Appu and me is that we both are Bengalis but even when it comes to that the character is not at all relatable to me. I don’t have typical Bengali traits and in fact playing Appu has taught me a lot about Bengali culture and authentic Bengali touch. When I was shooting for it, I realized I had forgotten how to speak proper Bengali.

There are already a lot of youth-based shows on the digital medium, so what sets ‘Only For Singles’ apart from the others?

Yes, there are a lot of youth based shows but basically the narrative of our series is very interesting and relatable and that’s what makes it so different. It is about six single people who have fun, they fight and have their different journeys. But the best part about it is that people will have fun watching it because all the single people out there will relate to it a lot.

How did you all bond on the sets?

Honestly, I happened to be a really cranky girl on the sets for some reason. The character really took a toll on me as a person and I used to be always cranky on the sets. I’m usually a very talkative person but I started talking less on the sets because my character Appu talks so much that at the end of it I used to be tired. So, people used to be a little scared of me.

The series is about singles and their struggles, so what do you miss about your single life?

I don’t miss anything about my single life. I’ve got a wonderful partner who lets me be as if I’m still living my bachelor life. Like, I’m leaving for Switzerland on a solo trip. Imagine being married and still going solo bag-packing, now how cool is that, right. Sandeep respects my privacy, gives me space and I actually breathe in this relationship, I have my own time and my own friends and I don’t have to bother him or get bothered by him. It’s like I’m living a single life without actually being single, so it’s wonderful.

The series is slated to release on MX Player from 28th June.
