Sony Entertainment Television's newest fiction offering, Kathaa Ankahee, the official Hindi adaptation of the popular Turkish drama, 1001 Nights (Binbir Gece) has been ruling the hearts of its audience with an intriguing storyline, stellar star cast and a lot of drama. The show's plot revolves around an irreversible mistake that creates a rift between Kathaa (Aditi Dev Sharma) and Viaan (Adnan Khan) but yet keeps them bound, demonstrating how love can emerge from the darkest moments. The show has the charming actor Samar Vermani who essays the role of Ehsan who is Viaan’s (Adnan Khan) best friend and his business partner. In a candid conversation, Samar talks about his role, the show, concept and much more.

Tell us about the show’s narrative that has been inspired by the superhit Turkish series, 1001 Nights. How does it feel to be a part of the Hindi remake?

I feel amazing being a part of Kathaa Ankahee. Though I haven't seen the entire 1001 Nights series, I do have seen a few episodes. When I first saw the drama, I thought, "Wow, this show is so well-made and has such an intriguing concept and plot." and being a part of the Hindi remake of the same series is no less than a golden opportunity. I am more than glad to be a part of such a great production. The past two months of filming have been an absolute delight.

Tell us about your character Ehsan. As we see that he is Viaan's best friend but at the same time he is catching feelings for Kathaa, how challenging or easy it is to play such a role?

My character Ehsan is Viaan's best friend and business partner. It's not that he sets out to develop feelings for Katha; it's more like when you make a friend and you don't know when that relationship grows into feelings. Since there is nothing wrong with the girl and she is a genuine person with a lot of potential, my character is slowly but surely developing feelings for her. Also, it turns Ehsan off when he sees someone doing wrong to another, like Viaan does wrong to Katha. Granted, he has a history of acting this way and has good reason to be wary of women, but his deeply embedded conditioning still makes him do odd things to Katha. As someone who, in real life, tends to be a little carefree and optimistic, and who makes an effort to avoid dwelling on the past or the future in favour of savouring the now, I find that portraying this character is a breeze. My directors and co-stars are pleasant and very helpful, and I don't have to give much consideration to the role I'm playing onstage since I always stay true to my thoughts and communicate them.

Tell us about the preparation you underwent to get into the character's skin.

This character is extremely close to me that's why perhaps I am having so much fun playing it, my preparation has always been the same that is to focus on the aim of the scene and thinking why am I saying and what am I saying so when I do that it becomes a little easy for me to do.

What do you think about Kathaa’s character of being a single mother and how do you think the audience will relate to it?

When you are a single parent, it is incredibly tough to coordinate your employment and your child's care, and if the child is ill, you must provide additional care. Those who are single parents would naturally relate to this because they face a similar situation. Also, I have a single parent; my mother has passed away. When I was younger, I have observed my father handling everything on his own, so of course it's difficult for parents, and it's also difficult for the child because as they mature, they gain a better understanding of the situation and do not want to put pressure on their parent, who is already under a great deal of emotional strain. People who are not single parents can relate to the mother and son because they can see the bond between them which is universal.

What is your view on bold concepts like Kathaa Ankahee coming on Indian Television?

I believe it's a brilliant move by Sony Entertainment Television since such daring concepts and one-night-only events are typically seen on the web exclusively. Having said that, I believe that our television audience has evolved tremendously because, in general, I perceive that the audience has matured. I believe the best aspect is that the audience accepts such bold concepts with open arms, as evidenced by the increasing TRP each week, the numerous messages I receive on Instagram and other social media platforms praising the quality of the show, and I believe that the audience will accept bold concepts if there is a story behind them. They will not appreciate it if it appears forced. If something is authentic, they will embrace it regardless of its boldness or casualness.

Tell us about the ongoing track and what the audience can expect from the upcoming track.

Since so much is transpiring in the plot, I am honestly also amazed by the upcoming track. What I can say is that there is a lot to come, and the channel's writers have ensured that all the plot twists are not merely for the sake of making the story more fascinating, but because they are necessary to the plot and are occurring naturally, much to how I probably fell in love with Katha.

What has your experience been like working with your fellow actors?

It's been Incredible. We began shooting approximately a month in advance, so I was having a great deal of fun at the time, and I continue to have a great deal of pleasure working with everyone on set. I've been blessed with a great group of co-stars, directors, and a creative team.
