Here Are Some Potential Ideas For 'F.R.I.E.N.D.S' Reunion Special

It was almost a dream and impossible to believe that the constantly-denied Friends Reunion was officially confirmed hours ago where the reunion special will be coming on HBO Max.

The six original cast members, Courtney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer will reunite together along with creators David Crane and Marta Kauffman.

Over the years, whenever a reunion was teased or talked about by the fans, the actors and the creators kept denying it and with what seemed like valid reasons too. However, now that the reunion is officially happening, the last thing both the makers and the fans would want is - tainting the legacy and sheer craze the show has managed to achieve over the years.

So, here are some potential ideas and points to keep in mind for the Reunion.

Not a Series, Just a One-Off

Even though it is rather clear by now, but just for some fans who might be wondering and expecting the reunion to be a series, it is not. It will be a one-off special for the forthcoming streaming service.

Not Taking Over From Where They Left Off

Obviously, it is not possible to actually take over from where the six friends, Ross, Rachel, Chandler, Joey, Monica, and Phoebe left off considering how obviously everyone has aged and changed too. So, just in case, the makers are planning to take over from there, that might not a good idea.

Emma? Can You Please Take Over?

I might be pitching this idea directly to the FRIENDS page (obviously knowing I am never going to be paid heed to). But, the iconic dialogue from Chandler when he addresses Ross and Rachel's daughter, Emma during her first birthday party saying - 'Hi Emma, it is the year 2020, are you still enjoying your nap?" might be the perfect segway into the special. We can have a now-grown-up Emma literally waking form her nap addressing Uncle Chandler's question as we build up to the current state of the principal characters. How things move forward is a different thing but Emma being a part of this might just be the perfect homage, reference and beginning to the special all at the same time. And yes, that is the grown-up Emma in the picture.

Unscripted Fiction

Some reports already suggest that the special will be 'unscripted' but that may not necessarily be true. However, the idea of having an unscripted fiction episode might do the trick. The six of them just sitting together in Central Perk and talking about some interesting incidents as their characters might be rather satisfactory.

Chemistry & Reality

The best part about the show back then and even today is the fantastic chemistry and friendship that all the six actors share with each other. Be it back in the days when they were still rising to fame or today, when all of them are megastars, the sextet are great friends even today in real life too. So chemistry and laughs? No prob. That should be capitalized upon.

At the end of it, the script or the idea for the reunion may or may not connect as much but the fans will feel extremely satisfied as long as the special is filled with references, nostalgia and smart lines. That is what made Friends the show it is back then and will only make the reunion even better.
