"There is no Hogwarts without you Hagrid". Everyone's favourite Harry Potter has given us several characters to cherish for life. One of which was undoubtedly, Rubeus Hagrid. Scottish actor Robbie Coltrane aka Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter series passed away at the age of 72.

The actor's agent Belinda Wright confirmed in an official statement that Robbie had breathed his last at a hospital near Falkirk in Scotland. According to reports by Deadline, the actor had been in ill health for the past two years. He is survived by two of his children.

For the unversed, the real-life name of Coltrane was Anthony Robert McMillan. He was born on March 30, 1950, in Rutherglen, Scotland. If reports are to be believed, he took the stage name Coltrane in his early 20s in remembrance of jazz saxophonist John Coltrane.

He gained popularity after playing Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter series. He portrayed a half-giant, half-wizard in the series, and his endearing performances and on-screen friendship with Harry Potter, as performed by actor Daniel Radcliffe, are still appreciated and loved by people of all ages.

Apart from ‘Harry Potter’, Robbie Coltrane was known for his performance in Hollywood films like ‘Cracker’, James Bond films ‘GoldenEye’ and ‘The World Is Not Enough’. Robbie is survived by his sister Annie Rae, his children Spencer and Alice and their mother Rhona Gemmell.
