BollyCurry gets together to celebrate the birthday of a well-known actor who is most famous for his role as the lovable gangster Circuit. Yep! We're talking about none other than choreographer-turned-actor Arshad Warsi!
Warsi was born on 19th April, 1968 to a Muslim family. Tragedy struck him at the age of fourteen when he was orphaned. This started his financial struggle and he started working as a door-to-door cosmetics salesman at the young age of 17. He then moved on to work in a photo lab, before joining Akbar Sami's Dance Group in Mumbai, which kick-started his dancing and choreographing career.
By the age of 21, Warsi had not only won an Indian dance competition, but had also received the fourth prize in the Modern Jazz category in the prestigious World Dance Championship in 1992! He had also formed his own studio "Awesome" and dance troupe. As is common knowledge, here is where Warsi met his future wife, Maria Goretti.
In 1996, Warsi got his first acting offer from ABCL (Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited) for Tere Mere Sapne(1996). This movie was very successful and Warsi was praised for his performance. However, Warsi was unable to create the same success for many movies to come with Hogi Pyar Ki Jeet (1999) being the only big success during the six years to follow. It was in 2003 that his career took a turn for the better with the release of Munnabhai M.B.B.S with Sanjay Dutt. This also got him his first award, the Zee Cine Award for Best Actor in a Comic Role, as well as the nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor.
After Munnabhai M.B.B.S, Warsi has continued to star in several successful movies, many of which featured him in a comic role. These include Hulchul (2004), Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya(2005), Salaam Namaste (2005), Golmaal (2006), Lage Raho Munnabhai (2006), Dhamaal(2007), Golmaal Returns (2008), Ishqiya (2010), Golmaal 3 (2010), F.A.L.T.U. (2011), Jolly L.L.B (2013), and Dedh Ishqiya (2014). Warsi has won many awards for his performance in Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006) including the Filmfare Best Comedian Award, IIFA Award for Best Supporting Actor, Zee Cine Award for Best Actor in a Comic Role, and Star Screen Award for Best Supporting Actor. Furthermore, he has won the GIFA Best Comedian Award for Hulchul (2004), and Star Screen Award for Best Supporting Actor for Ishqiya (2010).
In 2010, Warsi ventured into the production area with his first film as a producer and actor, Hum Tum Aur Ghost, under the banner Shooting Star Films. The movie didn't do well at the box office nor with critics. Warsi has announced his second movie under this banner, purportedly named Hungame Pe Hungama, which is supposed to release this year.
Warsi married Maria Goretti on Valentine's Day in 1999. On 10th August, 2004, the couple had their first child, a son named Zeke. Then on 2nd May, 2007, they had their second child, a girl named Zene Zoe.
