Google Monday dedicated a doodle with instruments like the tabla, the dholak, and a lady playing a tanpura to honour Carnatic vocalist M.S. Subbulakshmi, known for her mellifluous voice, on her 97th birth anniversary.

Born in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, Subbulakshmi was the first musician to be awarded India's highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna, in 1998.

Subbulakshmi made her film debut in 1938 with "Sevasadanam" and she was also known for her humanitarian work.

She died in 2004 at the age of 88.

There were reports that admaker-cinematographer-filmmaker Rajiv Menon was planning to make a biopic on the legendary singer and that he was in talks with Vidya Balan to play the lead.
