It’s been more than 37 years since Amitabh Bachchan faced a fatal accident on the sets of Coolie that almost took his life. The accident took place while he was shooting for an intense action-sequence that took place between him and Puneet Issar at the Bangalore University campus.

As per the original scene, Big B was supposed to land on a table and then fall on the floor, but he misjudged his jump and landed abruptly on the table with the edge hitting his abdominal part, and caused massive internal bleeding and haemorrhage.

The 76-year-old actor was rushed to a hospital in Mumbai after the accident took place and he had to undergo multiple surgeries. Big B had once admitted on his personal blog that he was declared clinically dead for a few minutes before putting him on a ventilator. He further wrote that he wasn’t responding to any kind of treatment.

Many admirers and fans in the entire country prayed for Big B. They not only donated their blood to save his life but they also walked barefoot to temples and pilgrimages to pray for his well-being. It was today i.e 2nd August when the hospital staff, who helped in treating the legendary actor, breathed a sigh of relief as Amitji had finally moved a muscle and responded well to the medications. As per Big B, this day is recognised as his rebirth and hence is celebrated as his second birthday.

Expressing his feelings, Amitabh Bachchan took his official social media handle and shred how much blessed he is to receive so much love and affection from the entire country. He wrote, “Many are they that remember this day with love and respect and with prayer .. I can only say I am blessed to have such gracious thoughts with me .. it is this love that carries me on each day .. it is a debt that I shall never be able to repay”

Even his son and Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan had once shared a throwback picture of himself along with his sister Shweta Nanda and his cousins surrounding a bed-ridden Big B in his hospital room.

Sharing the memory, he wrote, “I call it Big B and the Bachchan bunch. Dad was hospitalised with Mysthenia Gravis and my sister, cousins and I had gone to visit him. Being too young to understand what all was going on our parents always made it out to be like an outing so that we would not be disturbed by the hospital and its workings.

"When I used to visit my father after his accident on the sets of Coolie in 1982, seeing him connected to many drips and machines, he used to tell me they were kites that he had got for me. I was 6 yrs old. My father was fighting for his life and all I thought about was... why isn’t he allowing me to play with these kites??? The innocence of childhood I guess.”

As J.R.R Tolkien says, "End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it."

After recovering from the accident, doctors found out that Big B was not only suffering through Hepatitis B but he was also suffering from liver cirrhosis, which ruined 75% of his liver. Fortunately, Bachchanji's body was immune enough to fight the disease and recover from the life-threatening situation.
