#FinaleReview: Did 'Game Of Thrones' manage to Salvage the Ending? The Answer Is...

Yes! Almost entirely yes!

It is over! I cannot even fathom how Game Of Thrones is over and will never hit out screens with a fresh season ever again. At least not Thrones per se. However, with everything leading to the finale was a question and a problem too. This season had several issues as we discussed only recently and it was a question if the finale would be able to salvage all those problems. It all seemed highly unlikely. But somehow and in some way, they managed to do it. Of course, I am certain even now people will have different opinions and outlooks towards how things ended and how their favorite characters did or did not have justice but apart from a couple of minor hunches, I am glad the way it ended. Instead of noting all the happenings of the episode, I would like to only discuss the fate of the characters and other things-

Tyrion and his managing to stay alive at the end

It all seems too ill-fated for Tyrion Lannister every time but he manages to pull through all the mishaps. After being held in prison by Dany and his participation in the meet to decide the new king, it seemed a decent way for Tyrion's departure. However, the new king appointed him Hand Of The King and I understand that but it did feel things seemed a little too easy for Tyrion to have been fine at the end. Nevertheless, it is a good way for him to end things and hence a fitting end for the fan-favorite character.

1

Queen No More

There was barely any doubt left how Dany's outburst would result in her end, and that happened. With many predicting Arya to be the one to kill her off, it was Jon. Yes, it was a rather filmy moment of sorts but seemed fair too.

But here is what I do not agree with. Her outburst, even though scintillating to watch seemed rushed in the last episode and hence when you see Dany's graph over the course of eight seasons you realize how either her rise to being a rightful queen was too slow or her Mad Queen personality change was too fast. I choose the latter. If you only take the last episode into account, Dany did become the new villain but did so too late which was lazy on the writer's part.

2

Meet The New King

As I was watching it, I felt rather weird about it and even chuckled for a tiny moment on Bran being chosen as the new king but I understood how anyone else becoming the king or the queen would have brought things back to square one. Bran is no more a Stark per se and cannot be schemed, plotted or manipulated with too easily. So, he seemed fine to the choice for it now that barely a few main people are left anyway.

3

Full Circle For Jon

Many may or may not like the way things ended for Jon but I found it to be a fitting end. For killing the queen, traditionally he did commit treason but it was more necessary than ever. And he was never a Stark on paper and literally never a Targaryen even though by birthright. For a man like Jon, who did not care about the throne ever and had difficulties coming into terms with the house names and the titles, going to the Night's Watch seemed a good way for his storyline to end. Yes, he continued to be unlucky in love but life came a full circle for him where he went back to the people who loved him and followed him, and of course, Ghost. Jon on the throne would have been a terrible idea and needless to say, predictable.

4

Drogon - The Smartest One Ever

"Dragons are intelligent animals, at times more intelligent than humans" - this was once said in a previous episode and it couldn't hold more truth in this episode. Mourning his mother's death, it was Drogon who realized that this bloody Iron Throne was the root cause of it all and nothing is worth it. So, he burns the Iron Throne away literally and figuratively and flees off with Dany's body. The smartest one to be on Thrones ever.

5

The Endearing Characters

The final scenes were funny and endearing as some of the most loving characters are there on the council with important positions. These people have stayed loving and true overall and barely indulge in any schemes otherwise which would certainly be a good thing for the realm now.

6

Queen In The North and the Wanderer

Sansa would be queen in the north and that was almost obvious. And Arya would have no interest in any of this and that was obvious. That is how things ended for the Stark family considering how Bran and Jon (not Starks anymore) aren't into it, the montage with the fate of Sansa, Arya and Jon was beautiful. A good way for things to end.

7

Not Entirely Repaired

At the end of things, I cannot deny it at all how overall this season was disappointing and will go down as one of the worst. But as we knew that this is the finale and it was too less of time remaining to repair everything easily. So, considering how there was too much to be solved and it wasn't possible, it was at least a mildly satisfying note to part Game Of Thrones with. It isn't about being happy fully but being satisfied. That is what John Bradley aka Samwell said in one of his interviews and I agree fully.

8

Bye Bye Forever

One way or another, it is more emotional than ever that Thrones has ended. In spite of all the screw-ups and several issues, it is still one of the best shows to come on the block ever. Game Of Thrones will be remembered forever.
