Exclusive: Anuj Sachdeva's unique attempt will change your views about Ganesh Chaturthi!

Ganesh Chaturthi is a festival that is celebrated by millions of people across the country! Apart from the household Ganpati's, Saarvajanik or community funded Ganpati's have become a big hit! What was first started by Lokmanya Tilak as a way to unite Indians during the Independence struggle has now turned into something quite different now a days! 

However, Ganesh Chaturthi has become a celebration that not only brings joy but also causes a lot of problems! Anuj had been bringing an idol home every year but this year he thought about his choices and came to a conclusion. He explained how Ganesh Chaturthi is not just an auspicious festival but also a problem causing one.

"Let's take a look at what actually happens here. Large Idols are made of Plaster of Paris. When they are being escorted to their throne, they are accompanied by huge crowds dancing to drums or a DJ who even plays Item Songs! This causes a lot of traffic in the city and commuters have a lot of trouble and even Ambulances can't pass," explained Anuj.

"A lot of these Pandals illegally encroach public roads creating more traffic. Loud music is always playing at these Pandals which causes Noise Pollution. A lot of Politics are involved here as most of these events are sponsored by politicians that just want to put up big banners where there is a small Ganesha image and large political persons images! These Pandals house gamblers at night as people stay up all night at these venues playing cards in order to stay awake. Even during the Visarjan, they have the Dhol band or the Shameless DJ with a lot of people drunk dancing! Finally, when the idol is immersed, it washes up on the beaches and Jetties in bits and parts. This takes a lot of time to clean up and decompose. So we are actually causing more harm to the planet every year," he further added.

So this year, Anuj Decided to celebrate the occasion in a way that will actually help the ones in need. When asked about his one of a kind plan Anuj said, "This year instead of bringing an idol and spending a tonne of money on it, I will be helping out our Live Ganeshas! I have been collecting a huge amount of money and I am going to donate this money to a trust in Mathura who look after Elephants. These Elephants need real help. Some of them are injured and disabled and it is very expensive to help them survive. So I have decided to do my part and contribute to the Planet in a much better way."
