Ellen Pompeo Will Return as Meredith Grey for Grey’s Anatomy Season 17!

The long running show Grey’s Anatomy’s 16th season was cut short due to the global pandemic and the team wrapped up with it’s episode 21. Ellen Pompeo who essays the role of Dr. Meredith Grey in the show has signed up for yet another season for the show. The Actress was asked in an interview with Variety’s ‘After show’ if she had an end date in mind. To this, Ellen replied, “I've signed on for one more season is all I can say."

Ellen also donned the director’s hat for the show’s 13th season and she revealed that she doesn’t know where Meredith goes in the finale episode of Grey’s Anatomy. "I have no expectations and that's how I survive,” she added. 

Ellen was asked if she had an image of her finale scene, to which she said, “Not the final scene. The final episode I did, but I can't really tell you because then I'll have to kill you. (Showrunner) Krista (Vernoff) and I talked about potential things."

Talking about Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) exit from the show in season 16, Ellen shared, "The writers did a fantastic job... I'm happy with the way it ended because I think that Alex going back to be with Izzie (portrayed by Katherine Heigl) is an homage to those first days of that show. The first six seasons, with that original cast, are just fantastic.”
