There may be no words enough or precise to describe the bond between friends. The inexplicable essence of friendship however, has tempted many a movie makers to employ the theme underlying their basic plots; equally has it tempted the interests of vast audiences! The first time friends, the estranged ones coming back together, the romantic streak evoked between friends, or the die-for-mate bonds - Bollywood has been there, done it all!

Dosti (1964)

... go the lyrics, a reflection of the tale which focuses on the friendship of two boys, one blind, the other a cripple.
As hardships coming their way increase, the bond they share is seen to strengthen.
Roaming the streets of the city of dreams, Bombay, the two friends find a ray of hope when Ramnath gets admission in a school and Mohan outsteps his until then routine, to get educated himself. True to the title, this old movie is centered around the life and times of the two friends.

Sangam (1964)

"Dost dost naa raha, pyaar pyaar naa raha zindagi humein,
tera aitbaar na raha..."

Essentially, this is story of two friends falling in love with the same girl - a situation, if one may consider, extremely plausible in the real world.
Sundar , Gopal and Radha are shown to have been childhood friends. With adolescence coming on, Sundar develops an obsessive romantic attraction to Radha, who in turn prefers the third in the friendly trio, Gopal. Since Gopal himself reciprocates the attachment a love triangle inevitably surfaces. Eventually, Gopal decides to sacrifice his love for his friend's sake.
