Dindoshi Sessions Court reserves its order on Kangana's plea to transfer Javed Akhtar's defamation case

Kangana Ranaut had moved to Dindoshi Sessions Court under Section 408 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) to have the defamation action brought against her by lyricist Javed Akhtar transferred. 

According to reports, the case was heard on February 25 by Additional Sessions Judge, Shridhar Bhosle, and the court has withheld its decision on her motion. The order will be issued by the court on March 9, according to a report from India Today.

Kangana had filed a new petition contesting the sessions court judgement in January, asking for the transfer of all her legal procedures, claiming that the Andheri court had hurt her reputation. 

The actress had petitioned the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, claiming that the allegations levelled against her were 'bailable, non-cognizable, and compoundable.' 

She claimed that the Andheri Court "misused power" to harm her image even before her trial. Kangana declared, through her attorney, that she had no trust in that particular court. Kangana's case is scheduled to be heard on January 27.

In response, Javed Akhtar’s advocate Jay K Bharadwaj had said that the Thalaivii actress's motive is to delay the proceedings by filing various petitions and to harass his client who has been appearing before the Andheri Magistrate court despite being a senior citizen.

For the unversed, this defamation suit dates back to 2020, when Javed Akhtar had filed a complaint against Kangana Ranaut for her alleged ‘defamatory and baseless comments’ against him during a television discussion post the demise of Sushant Singh Rajput.The actress filed a counter complaint alleging extortion and criminal intimidation.
