Yesterday's maha episode of 'Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi' was undoubtedly one of the most anticipated episodes in history of Indian television.
From the preparation of Ritwick and Sonakshi's (Jay Soni-Erica Fernandes) engagement, to Dev's (Shaheer Sheikh) apparent FINAL letter to Sonakshi and from Ishwari (Surpiya Pilgaonkar) being surprised at Dev NOT obeying her orders, to the FINALE of Ritwick-Sonakshi's engagement, we point at how did the maha episode fare and what were the highs and lows in the episode.
The Highs
The episode probably encapsulated all the possible factors, emotions and happenings that would take place if such a situation actually occurred to someone in real life.

The night before the engagement, Dev and Sonakshi fight their emotions before going to bed and cry for one last time. That moment was as realistic as it gets.

While Dev struggles to coax himself to attend Sonakshi's engagement, he writes a FINAL letter to Sonakshi wherein, he mentions about how he always wants her to be happy and will erase her memories forever.

As soon as Dev visits the engagement, he is confronted by Sonakshi's father. What follows is a series of innumerable scotch drinks while they (Dev and Sona) keep looking at each other.

The next high is hands down, Shaheer's performance as drunk Dev. While one may keep wondering what can be NEW about playing a drunkard, Shaheer Sheikh has actually changed the way we see an actor playing a drunkard. You almost feel like he is actually drunk for the act. Fumbling dialogues, tumbling walk, the expressing of painful emotions, Shaheer excels at it all. There is literally nothing that one can point faulty fingers at. His way of telling Sonakshi, in a drunk state, that "all I want is that you stay happy", almost gives you goosebumps.

In the moment where the romantic dance between Ritwick and Sonakshi is all set to commence, we are all set to capture Dev's emotions, That is the moment where we are sure, several fans must have had tears in their eyes. Why? The currently popular and much loved title track of 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil' played in the background adding to the pain, agony and suffering of a lover watching his lover getting intimate with someone else.

Then arrives the scene that all of us were eagerly awaiting. The ring ceremony of Ritwick and Sonakshi. On one hand, Dev is standing with a glass in his hand and Ritwick is all set to don the ring on Sonakshi's finger, and BOOM! The next thing we know is that in absolute agony, Dev breaks the glass with the sheer power in his hand leading to blood loss. And the next thing we know is a dizzy Dev who falls on the ground.
With sufficient noise created to get the family and Sonakshi's attention, Sonakshi shrugs off Ritwick's hand and runs to Dev to see if he is alright. She is worried and panicky as an unconscious Dev lies in her arms. She calls for her Dada (Alpesh Dhakan) to assist her and helps Dev up, leaving her engagement and all the guests present, stunned.
The Lows

Amidst such a stellar episode, it was hard to find any sort of lows. However, the only low we could find was that in an episode where everything was so realistic, 'Ritwick was so acceptable and okay' with all of Dev's antics. Of course, it was nicely portrayed how supporting Ritwick is, but being okay with a drunk ex-boyfriend talking to his ex-girlfriend, who is your to-be wife? It seems a little too much.
The Verdict

While the show has always been responsible for giving us some fantastic tracks, impeccable acting performances and amazing music, this Maha Episode was no different. Of course, Erica, Jagat Rawat, Moon Banerjee and Supriya Pilgaonkar were at their usual best, but one of the unsung heroes of the episode could be Mushtaq Khan aka Maama Ji, whose couple of scenes with Dev and Ishwari respectively and the pep talk that he gave them both, can go down as one of the greatest scenes and performances ever.
And FINALLY, needless to say, Shaheer Sheikh was the scene-stealer and wowed us all with absolute ace. Of course, we have seen Shaheer's acting prowess in 'Mahabharat' in the past, but all we can say is that 'the best of Shaheer was probably saved for this show'.
