Polarizing would be the right word to use for all the reviews that have been coming in for Amazon Prime Video's recent release, Gehraiyaan. The film that stars Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday and Dhairya Karwa in lead roles released a week ago and since then, a lot of conversation has happened.
Be it the subject matter of the film, the intimate scenes or anything else, people haven't stopped talking about it. It wouldn't be unfair to say that Padukone's character of Alisha is the one who has received the most 'mixed' response. As known, her character of Alisha is shown as complex and emotionally naive, who has an affair with her cousin's fiancé. Reflecting on her character, Padukone admitted that she didn’t agree with some of the choices Alisha made in the film, however wanted to portray her as someone viewers could relate to and not judge.
In an interview, the actor shares that the idea of this film was ‘more observational’, and having said that, one as an individual might or might not agree or accept the choices that characters like these make but that doesn't mean they don't exist.
She said that it isn't necessary to agree with all the choices, but as an actor, one must step out of that lens of judgement and humanize this character. The actor also mentioned that historically, films tend to judge characters that indulge in infidelity, something that ‘Gehraiyaan’ has tried to move past.
Gehraiyaan released over a week ago on Amazon Prime Video and apart from Padukone, it also stars Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday and Dhairya Karwa in lead roles.
