ALT Balaji is considered one of the major players among the streaming platforms in the country. The streamer has presented a lot of hit series with experimental content and since the platform has collaborated with ZEE5, the viewership has surely increased. ALT Balaji-ZEE5 has come up with yet another riveting series with unique content titled Code M. The series features Jennifer Winget in lead role, also marking her digital debut. Apart from her, Tanuj Virwani and Rajat Kapoor feature in prominent roles.

Here’s a small review of the series, give it a quick read to see if you should invest your time in watching it or not.

Plot:

The series starts by telling us about a militant encounter which evokes rage amongst the civilians as they claim that it was a fake encounter by the Indian Army. The case heads towards an enquiry which is handled by Major Monica Mehra (Jennifer Winget), who soon suspects something wrong with the case and makes it her mission to uncover the truth. Turns out, what looks like a simple open and shut case, hence Monica does everything in her capacity to reach the truth, which is dark and uncomfortable.

Performances:

Jennifer Winget is a celebrated television actress and everybody is well aware of her strong and impactful acting prowess, however as Major Monica Mehra, I feel we can see her shortcomings. She plays the character of an Indian Army Lawyer, but the sweetness of her voice and dialogue delivery are disappointing. Her expressions and body language though are impressive. Other supporting characters like Tanuj Virwani, Rajat Kapoor and Seema Biswas have delivered a fabulous performance. Rajat and Seema act through their eyes and it’s compelling to watch them on screen.

Writing, Direction and Editing:

The plot is good but writing could have been better. The series will keep you engaged all the time and will keep your curious to find out the truth however it has it’s dull moments. The editing seems a little inconsistent, but the gripping plot saves the day.

Verdict:

If you enjoy watching army-thrillers, you can consider watching this one over the upcoming weekend. The series makes for a good watch but is sadly not the best to come out of ALT Balaji-ZEE5.
