Rapper Cardi B is facing a lawsuit from a woman who claims she was injured after the artist allegedly threw a microphone at her during a live performance in Las Vegas in July 2023. The incident took place at a beach club amid extreme heat, where Cardi B had reportedly asked the crowd to splash her with water to help her cool down.
The plaintiff, using the name Jane Doe in legal documents, alleges that she followed the artist’s request and lightly tossed her drink toward the stage, as did others in the audience. What followed, according to the lawsuit, was unexpected. Cardi B allegedly responded by throwing her microphone directly at the woman, which she claims hit her and caused physical injury.
Quoting the lawsuit, Hindustan Times reported: “Plaintiff, acting by the environment created by Cardi B’s express words and conduct, and in a manner consistent with other attendees, splashed a small portion of her drink in Cardi B’s direction. In apparent anger and without warning, Cardi B suddenly and forcefully threw her microphone directly at the plaintiff.”
The woman says she experienced not only physical pain but also emotional distress after the video of the moment went viral. She claims the incident triggered ongoing mental health issues and resulted in online harassment. The lawsuit also points out that the same microphone was later auctioned for nearly $99,000 (around ?85 lakh), which further aggravated her situation.
In her public statement, Jane Doe said, “What has been written off as a joke by many people is a traumatic experience that has significantly impacted my well-being and quality of life.”
Jane is also suing the venue, alleging the beach club’s staff failed to protect attendees. She notes that Cardi had thrown a microphone at a DJ just a day prior, indicating a pattern.
Cardi B’s lawyer, Drew Findling, dismissed the case, calling it a “money grab.” He said authorities had already closed the matter due to insufficient evidence. A press conference by the plaintiff’s legal team is expected soon.
