Bhumi Pednekar aims for a ‘Change’ in Bollywood as she admits about the presence of Pay Disparity!

Bhumi Pednekar’s choice of films speaks a lot about her personality as an actor and the actress has went on to achieve big in the industry within a really short span of time. Bhumi has carved a niche for herself in the industry with her performance so far. Apart from being a part of some of the most successful commercial projects, she has also been a part of excellent feature films that call for social change. 

The 31-year-old actor has been socially active and tends to raise her voice on the issues that seem to be relevant for her. 

Meanwhile, during her recent interaction with ETimes, Bhumi spoke about the presence of ‘Pay Disparity’ in Bollywood. The Bala actress admitted the presence and said that male actors are paid much more. Bhumi is looking forward to a change in the current situation and she is positive about the same.

Oh, yes. There is a lot of pay disparity. Your film has to make enough money to pay you at the level you are. But unfortunately, this does not apply to the boys. A male actor, who has achieved just as much as me, will be paid more. But it will change. A few of my colleagues, who have been working before me, have been fighting for this cause and so am I.

The actress was also asked if she has ever refused films because they were not giving her the remuneration that she deserved. The actress maintained, “Yes. There are certain films that I have skipped. Every film has different math. Producers do understand and there's no bitterness.”

She added, “I feel that since I am doing solo films that are led by me, I deserve a certain amount for the work that I am putting in; my remuneration has to be in proportion to the money that my film might make in the least. The idea that you should be paid lesser just because you are a female is just not right because I have the same responsibility towards a film as my male counterparts.”

Bhumi has entertained the audience with breath-taking performances in films like Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, Saand Ki Aankh, Sonchiriya, Pati, Patni Aur Woh, Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitaare.
