Ayushmann Khurrana-Jitendra Kumar’s Intimate Romance in Shubh Mangal Zyada Savdhan

There is no stopping for Ayushmann Khurrana, who is undeniably the man of the moment. Best known for his choice of scripts and portrayal of unconventional characters on screen, that address sexual taboos, the actor knows no bounds when it comes to impressing his audience. Right from playing a sperm donor in his 2012 debut film, Vicky Donor, the actor went on to take up more and gutsy on-screen characters - be it playing a man suffering from erectile dysfunction in Shubh Mangal Savdhan or cross-dressing and impersonating a woman, Ayushmann has done it all with utmost brilliance.

In his next, titled Shubh Mangal Zyada Savdhan, a film themed on homosexuality is a spin-off of the first installment of the 2017 film. Ayushmann will be seen playing a gay couple alongside TVF fame Jitendra Kumar. 

Bollywood has seen a bunch of films casting light on same-sex relationships like Dostana, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, Kapoor & Sons amongst others, but what makes Ayushmann-Jitendra’s film different? Reportedly, the lead actors will romance each other unapologetically and will not shy away from portraying a gay relationship on screen.

“Unlike Onir’s brave My Brother Nikhil where no intimacy was shown between the gay partner Sanjay Suri and Purab Kohli, in Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan there will be many intimate moments between Ayushmann Khurrana and Jitendra Kumar. This would be the first gay love story of Indian cinema where the central relationship would not accentuate the gender of the lovers,” told a source close to Deccan Chronicle.

Ayushmann was asked what it would be like doing a kissing scene with his male co-star in Shubh Mangal Zyada Savdhan. To which, the Dream Girl star had stated that it would be no different from kissing a female co-star, adds the report.

Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan is slated to release next year, on 13 March 2020.
