#AuthorsTake: 'Naagin 3' topped ratings EXPECTEDLY, but what about the OTHER SURPRISES?

This week's topper was as predictable as saas bahu sagas and the drama they will exhibit. Naagin 3 was always supposed to top with flying colors, but it did so with earth-shattering numbers and a landslide.

While this happened, the other things that did not happen were rather surprising and one other thing that did happen was equally surprising. Do not twist your brain cells too much on the twisting sentence that the above one is. You will know what we are talking about as you read on.

Not that we haven't seen reality shows topping the charts or doing wonders previously, but Dance Deewane's scintillating debut with 3.4 points and 2nd spot was a certain surprise. It did not create the usual buzz that a Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa or similar show would create. Also, apart from Madhuri Dixit, the other two judges aren't quintessentially popular too. But, call it the channel's reach or the desperate need of watching a reality show, Dance Deewane debuted with a bang.

While, I continue to think that Silsila Badalte Rishton Ka is certainly one of the best things to see on the tube right now, I did not anticipate a roaring rating debut or topping the charts moment for the show at all. But, what I also did not anticipate was the dismal numbers it fetched. A 1.1 rating for a star-studded show like Silsila isn't what would have been expected. I do blame it on the rushed schedule that the show had to go through for going on-air. But, all is certainly not lost, as the buzz is rising with passing day. With the content at par, and the star power of Shakti Arora, Drashti Dhami, Aditi Sharma and Abhinav Shukla, the show's future does look bright enough.

With these surprises, one thing was sealed and that was how the regular shows may perform in a particular manner, and one certainly can't change that much. But the dearth for content factor continues to hold true now more than ever. Anything new, when marketed properly will coax the viewers to not only have a look, but stay glued too.

The top 2 spots getting sealed by Naagin 3 and Dance Deewane cleared one thing for sure, and that is Colors was back on top in the channel ratings. This was something the channel would have strategically planned for after being pitted down for a while. With Naagin 3 and Dance Deewane doing wonders and a hope that Silsila performs ahead too, things certainly look good for the channel.

Both Naagin 3 and Dance Deewane have got the initial numbers, but there will be huge pressure for them to sustain it. While Naagin 3 has a legacy to it's advantage, Dance Deewane will have to work really hard.

The topsy-turvy rating charts this week spoke volumes about  how things have changed so much on the rating charts in a mere week with top guns firing big.
