Artist Rupankar Bagchi faces backlash by netizens for his remark' "we all sing better than KK"

Rupankar Bagchi, a Bengali artist, has sparked outrage on the internet with his recent comments on KK. He had a Facebook live session just hours before KK died in Kolkata. 

During his engagement with fans, Rupankar questioned the fanfare around KK's performance in Kolkata, claiming that local artists can sing better than KK. He claimed in the live stream that regional singers in Kolkata can't understand how much KK earns.

"I found out through Facebook that the one and only KK was in Kolkata for a concert, and there has been a lot of enthusiasm about that," he remarked in Bengali. "I have seen videos of me, Anupam Roy, Somata, Emaan Chakraborty, Ujjaini Mukherjee, Cactus, Fossils, Rupam Islam, and others. Why don't you become thrilled about us? I believe we all sing better than KK",

 he said, referring to Kolkata-based artists and bands.

 He continued, 

“Who is KK? We are better than any K. All the singers I have mentioned are far far better than Mr KK.”

He concluded his live by questioning the public's "fascination with Bombay" musicians and urging them to look at regional artists from the South, Punjab, and Odisha, among others. "Please be Bengali boys," he said as he walked away.

Fans of KK are already criticising Rupankar in the comment thread in response to his article. While some speculated that Rupankar cursed KK to death, artiste Tanmay Sadhak tweeted, "You should have been punished 100 percent." 

Rupankar later stated that his post was misconstrued by social media users. Rather than focusing on KK, he claims that his post was intended to raise awareness about the lack of interest in Bengali music and culture. Krishnakumar Kunnath, 53, also known as KK died in Kolkata just hours after performing at a concert yesterday.
