After a rather long delay, Apple TV+ has finally released the first trailer of its Amazing Stories, a five-episode reboot/reimagining of Steven Spielberg’s 1980s anthology series that is now on target to hit the Apple streamer March 6.

Developed by Universal TV and Amblin Television, Amazing Stories was one of the first original series projects announced for the streaming service. That was before original showrunner/executive producer Bryan Fuller and his fellow EP Hart Hanson exited over creative differences back in February 2018. Eventually, Once Upon a Time creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz were tapped to take over and they wrote the series.

The original Spielberg-produced Amazing Stories, which aired for two seasons on NBC from 1985-1987, developed a devoted cult following and won five Emmys during its run, and earned Spielberg a directing nom for the World War II-themed episode “The Mission.”

The new version calls back to that vibe with “The Rift,” starring Austen Stowell along with Kerry Bishé and Edward Burns. Mark Mylod (Game of Thrones) is directing the episode. Helmers in the series include Michael Dinner, Todd Holland, Susanna Fogel, Chris Long and Sylvain White.

Episodes also include “Signs of Life,” with Jacob Latimore and Sasha Lane; “The Heat” starring E’myri Crutchfield, Hailey Kilgore and Shane Paul McGhie; and “The Cellar” starring Dylan O’Brien and Victoria Pedretti.

Written by Peter Ackerman and directed by Fogel, the episode is about an awkward tween boy and his grandpa (Forster) who wrestle with feeling powerless. When a superhero ring Grandpa ordered out of the back of a comic book arrives 50 years late, they discover it has the power to turn them into actual superheroes.

Spielberg, Kitsis, Horowitz, Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, Chris Long, Don Kurt and David H. Goodman are executive producers of the series.
