Allahabad High Court slams Adipurush makers; dialogues deemed questionable & distasteful

Since the release of Om Raut's Adipurush, the film has been facing legal issues and protests across the country. Director Om Raut and writer Manoj Muntashir have found themselves at the centre of public discontent due to the film's subpar visual effects (VFX) and cringe-worthy dialogues. Faced with intense backlash, the filmmakers were compelled to make dialogue revisions. However, despite these efforts, fresh challenges have emerged consistently, posing new hurdles for the Adipurush team.

The latest blow to Adipurush comes from the Allahabad High Court, which, on Tuesday, severely criticized the film's "questionable and distasteful" dialogues, alleging that they have hurt religious sentiments. Emphasizing the significance of the Ramayana in Indian culture, the court noted that it holds a revered status, with people even reading Ramcharitmanas before leaving their homes. This led the court to question the filmmakers' belief that the audience would be swayed by the film's narrative. It further queried why Hindus, known for their tolerance, are repeatedly subjected to such testing situations and whether suppressing them is acceptable when they are known for their civilized nature.

The court also criticized the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), suggesting that they should have taken action before granting the film a certificate. It noted the relief that law and order remained intact after the film's release but expressed concern over the portrayal of Lord Hanuman and Sita as insignificant. The court maintained that such elements should have been eliminated from the film from the beginning, also pointing out that some scenes appeared to belong to an adult-rated category. The court concluded by remarking on the difficulty of watching such films.

In response, the defence highlighted that the makers of Adipurush included a disclaimer at the beginning of the film to address any potential concerns. However, this response has done little to appease the court or the aggrieved public, as controversies surrounding the film continue to escalate.
