The trailer of Akaal is out. Karan Johar has ventured into the Punjabi film industry with this movie. Gippy Grewal, Nimrat Khaira and Gurpreet Ghuggi are in major roles. The film is about the rise of the Khalsas, the warrior clan of the Sikhs. In the movie, we see how the Khalsas fight with tribal lords who invade territories from the Northwest of the country. The movie is based on historical facts and how bravely the Sikhs fought to defend the nation against tribal lords. Akaal has been shot on a big scale and the locations demand a second viewing.

Karan Johar said that Akaal is a tribute to his father’s Punjabi roots. He said his dad grew up in Lahore, Punjab, Shimla and spoke Punjabi. However, as his mother was a Sindhi, the language spoken at home was Hindi and English. He said he is glad to partner with Gippy Grewal who is one of the biggest producers, directors and actors of the industry. His son Shinda Grewal is also a part of the film.

This is his second movie with Dharma after Shershaah. He said his father Pankaj Dheer has worked with Gippy Grewal and when he got the call he instantly came on board.
